Don't ever diet again!

I hate the word "diet". Diet means a short term change in your eating behavior, and if you want to live a long and healthy life, you need to change the way you eat.

There is a ton of research that is available at our fingertips. It seems like there are millions of personal trainers with blogs and Instagram pages that will tell you "YOU HAVE TO EAT THIS, AND YOU HAVE TO EAT IT AT THIS TIME, COOKED THIS WAY!!" Frankly, most of it is bullshit.

This may look like a lot of information to some of you, especially the people who live off of fast food and truck stop diners, but it's really not.

These are a few keys things to remember if you're trying to eat healthier.

  • Stay away from processed food as often as possible. If it comes in a wrapper, it's probably not good for you.

  • If you can't pronounce most of the ingredients, put it down.

  • Protein is your friend. Whether you're trying to gain or lose weight, protein helps you feel fuller longer and gives you the energy you need to make it through the day.

  • Too much of anything is bad. Portion control is good. It's really that simple. Too many fruits can be bad for you, too many vegetables can upset your stomach, and too much meat can be harmful. An easy way to determine portion sizes is: 4 ounces is usually about the size of your palm, and that's one serving of meat. You need 2-3 servings of fruit a day, and they should each be the size of a baseball. Eat 3-5 servings of veggies a day (1/2-1 cup).

  • You need carbs to fuel your body, but a lot of fruit and vegetables already have carbs in them. Google it if you want to know. Use a MyFitnessPal or another app to log your intake; whatever you need to do to measure and manage your intake for awhile.
